Double Take?

In lieu of the Liz and Dick movie on Lifetime Sunday, I wanted to see what y'all thought about other biopic portrayals. Since I'm relatively certain I'm the only one on the face of the planet that even mildly enjoyed LiLo as Liz, I'm quite sure that I'll love these biopics. As a celeb/history junkie, it's the perfect pairing for me.

What do ya think?

Tennessee Mtn point of view...

...if you're gonna have one might as well have two.

The above phrase is currently playing on repeat in my head thanks to the Pistol Annies song, "Takin' Pills." My sister introduced me to the song on the way to Oxford for the Egg Bowl (hotty toddy), and I've been listening to it (and their whole CD) on repeat ever since.

For your viewing pleasure,

Famous Friends (part 2)

Round two of famous people I just know I'm meant to be besties with (for part one click here). My next friend should be no surprise to those who know me well: she's goofy, off beat, hi.lar.ious., and oh yea, she rocks red hair like a champ....

Why? you ask....
[she's one half of a hawt new celeb couple (with Andrew Garfield if you've been living under a rock)]

[She's not afraid to speak what's on her mind]

[she, like my famous friend part one gal, has a tattoo]
(for the story behind it click here)

[she's not afraid to look like a complete freak
for the sake of humor]

[she can switch between hair colors like it's a walk in the park; can't even decide which is better]

[oh yea, and she's a face for Revlon cosmetics]

There you have it.

Happy Holidays

It's that time of year, ladies and gents--Christmas is finally on the way. Here's a little preview of what the Cox casa looks like (more pictures to come once we finish). In the next few weeks I'll be sharing some of my favorite gift guides from bloggers and websites and finally the Memphis Magazine gift guide (exciting, exciting, exciting).

My first gift guide is for those looking for the perfect holiday hostess gift or house-warming present, and it's from one of my favorite blogs (I've mentioned it before here and is under recommended sites here), Elements of Style.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered. I'm Yours!

If you're anything like me the title of this post generates a kind of old-school, Now and Then-type dance move and head bob that makes you wish you could karaoke it this very moment. Right? Okay, well either way I bet you can relate to how important you feel when you get a snail-mail letter (not a bill).

While catching up on my Bible study homework I read Ephesians 1:13-14 which says, "And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession--to the praise of his glory."

Okay, wow. There are a million analogies I could use but I'll stick to my original one (the letter). When I think about this verse, I instantly think of a letter than has been formally sealed. Like a king's official seal, or a fancy wedding invitation.

Then, my mind wanders to the word "inheritance," and I think of a last will and testament (aka someone's will after they're gone). Then, I picture the will all sealed up in a fancy envelope waiting to be opened. Imagine for a second that you're the kid that never showed up for anything, never sent holiday cards, and was basically the black sheep of the family. There you are waiting on the will to be read. Suddenly, the document is read aloud and you realize that not only have you been included in this will, but favored. That's how we are in God's will.

Even though we're bound by sin, unable to prove our worth on our own, Christ's blood is proof of our citizenship in Heaven. All believers are sealed into God's literal will and therefore heirs to His throne by no merit of our own. If that doesn't make you want to karaoke the above song then I don't know what will!

Here I am, signed, sealed, delivered.
I'm yours, God.

Cleopatra, comin' at ya

Tonight is the premiere of Liz and Dick on Lifetime, and saying I'm excited would be an understatement. Not only is the life of Elizabeth Taylor très scandalous and intriguing, but add LiLo and huge diamonds and you can't go wrong. Anyone else watching it tonight? What do ya think?

Famous Friends (part 1)

This is the part of the story when I tell you which celebs I think I should be friends with and why (in Veggie Tales voice of "this is the part of the story when..." voice). And, yes, it's another series.

Famous Friends numero uno:
aka
Ashley Benson

Why, you ask?

[ she's one fourth of the best/most glamorous
detective series of my generation, PLL]

 [she likes/has tattoos]

 [she likes to dress up...]

[she likes to dress down]

 [she plays with her hair]

[rocks a top knot on the reg]

[and she even loves nail art]

If this isn't proof enough that we were meant to be A-list acquaintances, check out her pinterest, and website for more proof. More famous friends and evidence to come.

Saving Face

Winter can be harsh for those with the wonderful privilege of having super sensitive skin (cough, cough.. me), but lucky for me...it seems to be a hot topic for magazines and cosmetic brands once Thanksgiving hits. With a plethora of sites dedicated to showing me the superior way to prevent wrapping my face with a scarf all season, I've decided to share of few of my favorites with you.

Winter Skin Care 101:
Click here for the details on the above products

 Here for the above products

Once a week for 20 minutes, sit in a hot bath that contains a handful of Epsom salts, 10 drops of lavender essential oil, and a half cup of baking soda. This combo draws out toxins, lowers stress-related hormones, and balances your pH levels.

A few other things I know:
  • exfoliate your skin twice a week to prevent dry patches
  • seal in moisture with a serum then a cream/lotion
  • moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

[Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer for a dewy summer look in the winter. Other Bobbi Brown skincare products I'm dying to try are here, here and here

[Nivea Soft moisturizer: I'm told this works wonders for dry skin, even on your face]

[CeraVe moisturizing cream: I use this at night as body lotion during the winter]

Not satisfied with my suggestions? Try here, here, here or here for more. Now that your skin is taken care of, here are a few looks I'm planning to rock during the chilly winter months:

 [fresh face, minimal make up]

[top knot and pink lips]

 [wine colored lips]

Thanksgiving Threads

Since I'm on the road to East Tennessee for Thanksgiving today, I have clothing/packing on the brain. I'm always one for comfort, and Thanksgiving is no exception (especially since I basically plan on storing up on food for the winter). But who says you can't be comfortable and semi-chic?

Inspired by J's Everyday Fashion Thanksgiving post, I too found key pieces and looks for my ideal holiday attire:

Happy Thanksgiving!
